This work titled The Rhythm is a tribute to the intricate ecosystem of Bullo River Station, a place where every element breathes life into the next. When I stood on that land, in Australia’s Northern Territory, I knew I couldn’t choose just one subject: the vast sky, the winding river, the red earth, and the lush greens all exist in a delicate balance. Each feeds the other, creating a circulatory system that pulses in a delicate rhythm.

To honour that complexity, I intertwined all these elements within the composition, allowing them to flow into one another like the natural rhythms of the station. My materials are as much a part of this story as the imagery itself. I incorporated denim jeans worn by the Ringers, preserving their creases and repairs as traces of hard days under the sun. I like to think that memories are embedded in fabric. Their work shirts also find a place here, carrying the essence of those who care for this land.

I dyed cotton by hand with Bullo's land, using red ochre from the earth itself, anchoring the work in its origins. The colours that stayed with me long after leaving were the bold blues and dense greens. They contrasted so beautifully together, the water mirroring the rugged terrain and the piercing blue sky.

This piece is about a land deeply respected and lovingly tended, where wildlife thrives and an unseen rhythm hums through every living thing.

This exclusive, one-off piece of art, is available for just one lucky person to buy and forever treasure. And, in-line with Bullo River Station's commitment to environmental protection, and my own personal desire to promote sustainable living, 100% of the proceeds from this artwork sale will support the vitally important work of Australian Wildlife Conservancy - a registered charity, and long-standing Bullo partner committed to protecting Australia's unique wildlife. I am proud to be supporting tangible positive outcomes for the protection of Australia's wildlife through this charity auction, and for my art to be both giving back to important conservation efforts, and to be telling a powerful and purposeful story.

By bidding, I agree to the terms & conditions of this charity auction.

Terms and Conditions

A 'bidder' is someone who submits a bid for this artwork. All interested bidders must submit their highest bid and complete all other necessary details via the form on this webpage, before 8pm on 24 November 2025 (WST: Perth time).

Failure to submit a bid before this time will exclude interested bidders from being selected. The promoter is not responsible for any technical issues or other reasons that prevent an interested bidder from successfully submitting their bid. By submitting a bid, the bidder agrees to pay their nominated bid amount, in full, should they be selected as the highest bidder on 25 November 2025.

The selected bidder will be notified on 25 November 2025, and will have 7 days to make payment of their nominated bid amount. If the full bid amount has not been paid within 7 days, then that bidder will forfeit their right to own the artwork, and the second highest bidder will then be notified, with the second highest bidder then having 7 days (from their date of being notified) to make payment of their nominated bid amount.

Meg Gallagher will collect funds from the successful bidder, on behalf of Australian Wildlife Conservancy, and will in-turn transfer these funds in full to Australian Wildlife Conservancy within 7 days of receiving these funds. Details of this funds transfer (donation) will be made public on Meg Gallagher's social media channels in collaboration with Australian Wildlife Conservancy, and the successful bidder agrees that Meg may share their first name, country and bid amount. Once payment from the successful bidder has been received by Meg Gallagher, the successful bidder will be contacted to obtain their delivery address, with Meg arranging delivery of the artwork to the successful bidder in December 2025.

Should neither the highest bidder, nor the second highest bidder, make payment in full and in time, then the promoter reserves the right to either contact other bidders or to alter the use of this artwork and to change the terms and conditions of this charity auction. The promoter of this charity auction is Meg Gallagher and Bullo River Station.

Bullo River Station x Meg Gallagher

Returning to her studio in Dunedin, New Zealand, Meg began the process of re-immersing herself in Bullo River Station - revisiting her sketches, colour samples, and the collected materials, and laying these out across mood boards. From there, she layered pigments, paints, and dyes, while slowly incorporating the station sourced materials - a slow and laborious process, guided by her artistic inspiration and intuition.

This beautifully commissioned piece of art, labelled The Rhythm is Meg's love letter to Bullo River Station and outback Australia. A textile-based artwork inspired by her visit, and featuring worn materials from station ringers and staff.

Influenced by her former career in Australian fashion and denim design, and inspired by the significance of denim in outback Australia, all while set against a backdrop of wild, rugged landscapes, Meg's collaboration with Bullo River Station in Australia's Northern Territory is a natural fit.

Meg visited Bullo River Station in July 2025 as their first artist-in-residence, and spent time being inspired by the property's vast lands, vivid nature-based colour palette, and the enthralling stories of the station's ringers. During her stay she also collected old denim jeans, paisley bandanas, and sun-faded green cotton workwear, all once worn by the Bullo team, with each piece of material etched with unique fading and marks from years of use.
